Laurie & Santiago's Big Fat Geek Wedding!

On n April 1, 2007, we got married! For real and for true, despite suspicions to the contrary because of the date. :)

Here are the details, for those who are interested:

  • Our ceremony was held at 1:30 p.m. (well, actually a bit later than that) at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall, a gorgeous musical recital hall in Methuen, MA.
  • Our reception was held later that afternoon at Springstep, a dance and arts complex in Medford, MA.
  • We had a potluck reception. Our good friend Tamar Amidon coordinated the food and drink.
  • We got our wedding cake from Rosie's Bakery in Cambridge.
  • As we are from different religious traditions, but neither of us is especially observant, we had a secular ceremony with elements from each of our backgrounds. Our spiffy housemate, JB Segal, who recently become a Justice of the Peace, performed our ceremony.
  • Since some people have asked: Instead of registering for stuff that we don't have room to put in our place, we signed up with a honeymoon travel registry using Giftpile.com. Our plan is to delay our big honeymoon until August, when we will travel to Japan. We're going to Worldcon in Yokohama, and then we're going to travel around the country a bit.
  • Our small honeymoon was a week in Sedona, AZ. My parents kindly gave us a timeshare week, and we hiked around different spots in Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Red Rocks State Park, Wupatki National Monument, Sunset Crater Volcano Park, and Montezuma's Castle National Monument. We also took a scenic flight above Sedona Valley, the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff and the San Francisco Peaks, and the Painted Desert.
  • To see all of the important locations of our wedding on one interactive map, check out our Wedding Mapper map! It has links to the locations of Methuen Memorial Music Hall, Springstep, and Logan and Manchester airports. You can use it to generate driving directions, too.
  • JB kindly set up a wiki rideboard for the purpose of facilitating ride-sharing to and from the wedding. It's not beautiful, but was functional enough for our needs.
  • See the wedding menu page, with all the food and drink our guests contributed to the wedding feast.
  • I've put the text of our ceremony online.
  • NEW! See our collection of wedding photos on Flickr! We have the professional proofs and photos taken by friends.

We loved sharing our big day with you!
